Group Civil Union Ceremony

  Attendance is up for Aspen Gay Ski Week.  Organizers say more than five thousand guests are participating.  It is an increase over last year.  Activities this year include film, live comedy, après ski gatherings and, of course, lots of skiing.  In a first for Gay Ski Week here, on Saturday, several couples will be joined in civil union in a group ceremony APR’s Roger Adams explains.

How Will Recreational Marijuana Impact Local Teenagers?

Last week the Aspen School District and the group Project 18 held a panel discussion on teenagers and marijuana. The legalization of recreational pot has many parents concerned.

Now that recreational marijuana is legal for adults 21 and older, some parents of young kids are concerned. Law enforcement and school officials say legalization has led many kids to see marijuana as benign.  Some parents also fear with legal pot now for sale, it will be easier for their kids to get. Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen reports.

Parent Jillian Livingston’s son is preparing to enter high school next year.

"I feel like there’s a lot of questions. I feel like he is in the middle of this new evolution and I think that we have to be educated," she said.

Ski Co Hosts Month-long Skier Safety Effort

If you’ve skied one of the four Aspen Skiing Company’s mountains, you’ve probably seen the common safety warnings. Signs range from “slow” to “no straightlining.” Now, Ski Co is part of a month-long effort by the National Ski Areas Association to drill that message home. 

 

When you get off the Elk Camp Gondola at Snowmass, there’s a tent with tantalizing free cider, stickers and Clif bars… that is if you can first pass a quiz about safety.  Tackling that issue  on the slopes is a multifaceted affair. Level one is, well, skiing more slowly.
