Aspen to Locals: X Games Concerts = Some Road Closures

This month’s Winter X Games will mean more road closures in Aspen than in previous years.  That's because the city wants to make way for music concerts downtown, in Wagner Park. Aspen is taking pains to make sure businesses and residents know what to expect…including a recent meeting at City Hall.

Aspen Approves City's First Retail Pot Shop

The Aspen medical marijuana dispensary Silverpeak Apothecary is expected to open the city’s first retail pot shop in a matter of weeks. Aspen Public Radio’s Rob St. Mary reports.

Marijuana Greenhouse Breaks Ground near Basalt

The owner and partners of the medical marijuana dispensary Silver Peak Apothecary posed for a picture last week. The business is building a greenhouse in the Mid-valley. They hope to add retail pot to their offerings.

Construction equipment is moving dirt in the Mid-Valley in preparation for a marijuana grow site. The medical marijuana business Silverpeak Apothecary is constructing a 25,000 foot greenhouse to supply both medical and retail marijuana to its storefront in Aspen. As Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen reports, the owners broke ground Friday despite complaints from neighbors.

Expert: Pilots Likely Well Trained, Maybe Not for Difficult Aspen Airport

Aspen can be a particularly difficult airport to fly in and out of, especially in bad weather... and pilots get the final say about whether or not to land. Some pilots get extra training for a tricky airport like Aspen, but it's not clear whether the pilots in the crash did.  To learn more about how pilots are trained, Aspen Public Radio’s Elise Thatcher spoke with Aleks Udris. He’s co-partner in a pilot training business in Boulder called Boldmethod, and recently wrote about Aspen's airport.

Planes, Buses to Get Travelers to Destinations

Buses to help get travelers to destinations from the Aspen Airport - January 6th, 2014

With the clearing of the crash wreckage from the runway last night, the Aspen Airport saw travelers arriving by car and bus to find the best ways out of the town this morning.

By 6am several dozen travelers had arrived at the United Airlines counter to get tickets re-routed following a 36 hour closure of the airport. Travelers were offered various solutions including flights out of Aspen or bus service to Denver to meet connecting flights.
