Lift Tickets Feature Art From the Streets of Los Angeles

Los Angeles artisit Mark Bradford designed this season's Aspen Skiing Company lift tickets. The Skiing Company partners with the Aspen Art Museum every year to design the ticket.

If you’re heading up to ski at one of the Aspen Skiing Company mountains, take a look at your lift ticket. It was designed by a Los Angeles artist who transforms materials found in the street into paintings and collages. For the lift ticket designs, artist Mark Bradford used “merchant posters.” They’re bright and include messages like Rich BoySober Living and Artist of the Year. Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen spoke with Heidi Zuckerman-Jacobson. She’s the director of the Aspen Art Museum, which partnered with the Ski Company on the project.

Road to Sochi: Pro Snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler Back on Snow After Serious Injury

Aspen resident and pro snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler is recovering from a serious eye injury. She's back on her snowboard and training for the Winter Olympics.

As the Olympic Games inch closer, athletes are competing in qualifying events around the world. Professional snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler has her sights set on Sochi. This would be the last Olympic Games for the 32-year-old Aspen resident who’s already competed in two. This season, she’s coming back from a serious injury. Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen reports.

Training Program for Adaptive Athletes Scales Back Due to Cuts

The Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club's adaptive program is fundraising to make up for losses earlier this year. Federal grant dollars that normally fund the program didn't materialize this Fall.

A training program for paralympic athletes in Aspen is in need of funding. Federal dollars that once paid for the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club’s adaptive program ran out this fall. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs supplies the money and amounts for clubs like AVSC usually range from $250,000 to $500,000 dollars per year.
