Denver Post Hires Marijuana Editor, Launches Pot Website

Colorado made history on January 1st as more than three dozen retail pot stores opened across the state. The Denver Post has hired a Marijuana Editor and launched a new website to track this new industry.

Across the state, more than three dozen retail marijuana stores opened for business  on January 1st, marking a historic milestone for pot advocates. News reports showed lines outside of some Denver-area stores. And, people from around the country traveled to the state to purchase pot. In the Roaring Fork Valley, retail marijuana shops are expected to open later this year.

If movie aficionados in the Roaring Fork Valley, the last week and a half may have had an extra holiday bonus. Aspen Film is hosting Academy Screenings through Thursday, January 2nd. Now sometimes, during a movie, there’s a moment when the viewer realizes the film could have used another round with the editor. "Amnesty Box" at Aspen Airport Considered for Weed Disposal

Starting January 1st, adults 21 and older in Colorado can purchase recreational marijuana. Law enforcement in the Aspen area is preparing.

As Colorado ushers in legalized retail marijuana, law enforcement is preparing for how to handle it. On January 1st, adults 21 and older will be able to purchase recreational pot at shops around the state. The first retail enterprise won't open in Aspen until later this winter. Still, the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office is preparing. Sheriff Joe Disalvo says he wants recreational weed to "succeed safely" in the resort town. He spoke with Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen.

Aspen's Simi Hamilton Claims Victory in World Cup Stage Race

Aspen resident Simi Hamilton made history Tuesday. He's the first American male to win a World Cup Stage. His victory in Switzerland improves his chances of making the U.S. Olympic team.

Governor Open to Helping Bring Down Insurance Premiums

    Governor John Hickenlooper says he could get involved with bringing down health insurance prices. That could have a real impact for residents of the Roaring Fork Valley and other mountain towns. Garfield County asked the state's top official earlier this month to intervene with high premiums. The County believes Colorado officials did a sloppy job earlier this year when coming up with prices. But some experts say the state didn't make any mistakes.
