Special District Elections: The "Wild West" Of Voting

Several special district elections were held in the Roaring Fork Valley this spring. These kinds of "taxing" districts are mostly unique to Colorado, California and Oregon.

A handful of special district elections wrapped up earlier this month with voters casting ballots up and down the valley for board members. Turns out, the way these elections are run has been a point of contention over the years at the State Capitol. Unlike County and State elections, these local elections are subject to fewer rules. Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen reports.

Phone Scam Aimed at Credit Cards

Residents in the Roaring Fork Valley are being warned about a phone scam. Locals have received calls about their credit cards, an illegal effort to get their money. But the criminals behind the scam made a big mistake. They called people who can spot a hoax, like District Attorney Sherry Caloia.

Aspen Valley Hospital Brings On Electronic Medical Records

Aspen Valley Hospital is in the middle of implementing the switch from paper records to electronic medical files. Later this year, the Emergency Department will become digital.

While hospitals across the country work to transition from old-fashioned paper records to electronic data, some doctors in Aspen have already “gone digital.” Aspen Valley Hospital is in the middle of this conversion, which is part of the Affordable Care Act.
