"Legally Blind" High School Students Tackle Skiing at Snowmass

Many Roaring Fork Valley residents know what it’s like to get on skis for the first time. It can be a wobbly, nerve-wracking experience. Now, imagine doing that without being able to see very well. This week, eight high school students from Tennessee are skiing at Snowmass for the first time and they’re labeled legally blind. Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen reports.

Garfield County Asks Governor to Intervene on Insurance Rules

Garfield County wants Governor John Hickenlooper to intervene with the state's new health insurance rules. The county has some of the highest premiums in Colorado under new guidelines, which are part of the Affordable Care Act. The state agency in charge of the new rules recently visited communities around the state to explain why premiums are so high. But Garfield County officials remain unconvinced.

As the Olympic Games get closer, athletes like figure skater Jeremy Abbott are working hard to make Team USA. The three-time U.S. champion and Aspen native has yet to deliver on the world stage. Abbott wants 2014 to be the year he takes a medal. With only two spots open on the U.S. men’s figure skating team, the competition is tough. Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen reports.

Non-Profit in the Spotlight: Wheeler Associates, Part 3

On December 21st, the Wheeler Associates and the Wheeler Opera House will co-present a performance by Burt Bacharach. Josh Berhman, Aspen local and an active board member for the Wheeler Associates, a non-profit organization, discusses the event, which will commemorate the Associate's 30th anniversary and celebrate the re-opening of the newly renovated Wheeler Opera House.
