"Free Dinner" Helps Fund the Buddy Program

For well over 20 years, a staple of Aspen's Main Street opens the doors for a "free lunch" for a good cause every Thanksgiving afternoon.

From 11:30am-4pm today, the Hickory House offered an array of traditional favorites - turkey, roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce, slaw and bread along with a drink and a pumpkin pie, of course, for the low, low price of "free". But, donations - suggested at $5 a plate - would go to help the Buddy Program

Cooking a Thanksgiving meal is a big job under normal family circumstances… imagine cooking up the big meal for a crowd.  One local woman is whipping up a spread for  the many bus drivers and other employees of the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority who are on the clock today. APR’s Elise Thatcher has the details.

The New Health Care Reality

Road to Sochi: Freeskier Alex Ferreira Hopes to Make Team USA

Nineteen year old Alex Ferreira is a freeskier from Aspen. He's hoping to compete in the Ski Halfpipe discipline in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Aspen native Alex Ferreira was asked to be on the U.S. Ski Team before he graduated high school. The 19-year-old freeskier competes in the halfpipe and the 2014 Olympics would be his first. Right now, he’s splitting his time between training, competing and studying. He’s enrolled in college in Utah, and he says it keeps his life balanced. Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen reports.
