Pro Cycling Challenge: Mixed Feelings from Aspen, Snowmass Business Community

For two days this week, the upper Roaring Fork Valley played host to more than one hundred professional cyclists, their staffs and lots of fans. It was the third year the USA Pro Challenge brought this contingent through Aspen. As Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen reports, the race’s economic impact is good and bad, depending on whom you talk to.

USA Pro Challenge Updates from the Road

Aspen Public Radio's Elise Thatcher is in car 8 in the moving convoy following the Champion System team. They're riding from Aspen to Breckenridge for Stage 2 of the USA Pro Challenge.

Today's Stage 2 of the  USA Pro Cycling Challenge takes riders over Independence Pass and over to Breckenridge. The riders will zoom through Buena Vista, Fairplay and Alma before they reach the finish line. Aspen Public Radio's Elise Thatcher is getting an insider's glimpse. First Draft - Charles Paterson

Charles Paterson was born Karl Schanzer in Vienna, Austria in 1929 and now lives in Aspen, Colorado. An architectural designer, Paterson was one of the last apprentices to train under Frank Lloyd Wright. His coauthor and daughter Carrie Paterson is an artist, writer, and editor for Artillery: Killer Text on Art. She lives in Los Angeles.

Audio Canvas -- Mark Klett

Mark Klett is an American Photographer and Professor of Art at Arizona State University. His work studies Western landscapes, most notably the Grand Canyon and desert environments. Klett has a diverse background in geology and photography. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Geology, he decided to pursue photography professionally and received an MFA in Photography. In the meantime, he spent summers using his geology degree as a field assistant for the U.S. Geological Survey.
