Dwayne Romero sworn in

The Aspen City Council has finally filled the seat vacated by Mayor Steve Skadron following his election this May. Last night (Mon., 7-8-2013), the council swore in its newest member. Aspen Public Radio’s Rebecca Kruth reports.  

The fifth city council seat is no longer empty.

The council wasted no time in making its newest member, Dwayne Romero, official. Municipal Court Judge Brooke Peterson was there to do the honors at last night’s meeting.

As Aspen Ages, Community Leaders Look for Housing Solutions

Ken Canfield came up with the idea to build a retirement community in the Roaring Fork Valley. At 88, he says he would move into such a facility in a heartbeat.

A clearer picture is emerging of a senior living community in Basalt. Last month, the organizers of the massive project presented detailed plans to Basalt’s Town Council. The senior campus would include multiple buildings on 18 acres just down the road from the local high school.

Organizers say such a development is badly needed in an area where the senior age demographic is expected to skyrocket in coming years. Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen reports.

Elizabeth Ferrill's work is simple, geometric and colorful. She works in a variety of mediums from printmaking   and painting to sculpture. Ferrill is teaching two week-long workshops at the Ranch in July and shares her personal inspirations and artistic endeavors.

From the iPod to the AC - Tony Fadell of Nest Labs

In 2001, Tony Fadell’s design for Apple revolutionized the music player and eventually the cellphone. Today, he’s the CEO and chief designer at Nest Labs - a company aiming to making your thermostat more beautiful, intuitive and energy efficient. Fadell was in town this week to present at the Aspen Ideas Festival and he spoke to Aspen Public Radio’s Rob St. Mary.
