Winter X Games Get Started In Aspen

The X Games will be a big part of January in Aspen at least until 2019.  On Wednesday, ESPN and the Aspen Skiing Company reached an agreement to keep the games in town for another five winters.  What would become of the Games in Aspen had been an open question until the agreement was announced.  They’ve been been held in Aspen for thirteen years, longer than any other X Games host city. Also... on Wednesday, snowboarder Shaun White did an on-again, off-again routine settling on “off.”  The Flying Tomato said he will not compete at Buttermilk this year.

Better Cell Service May Be Coming to Snowmass Village

Depending on where you are in Snowmass Village...and what phone provider you have, It’s easy… and frustrating… to lose a cell phone signal.  There are efforts underway to reduce the rate of dropped calls.  One obvious solution is to erect more cell towers. But that can be difficult to do.

Jury Not Convinced Aspen Brewing Company Was Too Loud

Aspen Brewing Company was not too loud last summer. Yesterday six jurors found the micro brewery not guilty of breaking Aspen’s noise ordinance.  The decision comes amid ongoing friction between businesses on Restaurant Row and the owners of two penthouses right in the core.

Jury Finds Aspen Brewing Company Not Guilty

A jury has found the Aspen Brewing Company was not too noisy this summer. After a short deliberation, the six members unanimously decided the ABC did not violating Aspen noise ordinances on three different occasions this summer. The decision came after a day’s worth of testimony and arguments. Aspen’s Assistant Attorney Debbie Quinn argued city police had measured over-the-top noise levels coming from ABC… and affecting a family living in a neighboring penthouse. Ultimately jurors decided they weren’t convinced that happened.

Ski Co Hosts Month-long Skier Safety Effort

If you’ve skied one of the four Aspen Skiing Company’s mountains, you’ve probably seen the common safety warnings. Signs range from “slow” to “no straightlining.” Now, Ski Co is part of a month-long effort by the National Ski Areas Association to drill that message home. 

 

When you get off the Elk Camp Gondola at Snowmass, there’s a tent with tantalizing free cider, stickers and Clif bars… that is if you can first pass a quiz about safety.  Tackling that issue  on the slopes is a multifaceted affair. Level one is, well, skiing more slowly.
