8th St. connection begins in Glenwood Springs

Construction on Glenwood Spring’s Grand Avenue bridge will take a pause for the holiday weekend and then hit the ground running with a new phase of the project next week.

Beginning Tuesday Sept. 6, the two-month “eighth street connection” phase of downtown Glenwood Spring’s $125 million road construction project will begin.

Crews will initially work on excavating the area for an 8th Street extension bridge over the Roaring Fork River, connecting to Midland Avenue, as well as removing trees in the construction zone. Beginning Oct. 8, the bridge will be closed entirely to motor vehicles but the pedestrian bridge will remain open.

During this time on and off ramps at both exit 114 and 116 will be down to one lane or will be closed entirely.
