As the craft brewing scene gets more crowded, entrepreneurs are getting into the distilling business. Last year, Connie Baker and her husband got into the act.

A year later, and the Marble Distilling Company is an award-winning brand that celebrated its first birthday last week.

“The locals love anything that’s tied to their community,” said Baker.

Baker said that after a year of working on her new project, the only thing she would do differently is to get into the business earlier.

So what can you see in the coming months and years from the Marble Distilling Company? First, the much anticipated whiskey that has now been aging for a year. There will also be greater availability as production ramps up, and because the distillery has arranged a distribution deal with a Denver company.

Baker hopes that if the distillery is around in a decade or so, maybe the next generation will take the reins and continue the business.

“That would make me so happy,” she said.
