All women at Aspen Art Museum’s new exhibits

For what might be the first time ever, the Aspen Art Museum will feature work done entirely by women. Liz Larner opens her collection of wall-based ceramic pieces on Saturday.

They are rolled pieces of clay that have cracks and bends. Some are named after geologic actions like subduction.

In the coming weeks, Rachel Rose, Mickalene Thomas and Judith Scott also will have their work featured in the galleries.

Thomas works in film and video. Her exhibition entitled “Mentors, Muses and Celebrities” presents the ideas of beauty, gender and race. Her show opens on March 11.
