APCHA board will hear Mulcahy case update

Ross Daniels

The Aspen Pitkin County Housing Authority board will hear an update regarding a lawsuit against Burlingame resident Lee Mulcahy during their meeting today.

Mulcahy said he will attend the board meeting even though the discussion of the case will be held in closed session. The lawsuit against Mulcahy surrounds his residential and employment status. To live in his Burlingame home he needs to live and work full time in Pitkin County. Mulcahy said he doesn’t know if he will have a chance to speak today, and he doesn’t feel like he has had a chance to make his case.

“You might think that APCHA’s board would want to hear from both sides. Well you’d be mistaken.” Mulcahy said.

City of Aspen Community Relations Director Mitzi Rapkin said that Mulcahy had been offered the chance to speak to the board but didn't show up when invited.

Mulcahy said those invitations came when the board was aware that he was out of town and could not appear in person.

As the attorney for the Town of Basalt, Tom Smith brought a suit against a different citizen earlier this year. And, as Aspen Public Radio reported last week, Smith served as Basalt Mayor Jacque Whitsitt’s personal representative during a hearing earlier this summer.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Aspen City Hall.

This story has been updated to include a response from the City of Aspen.
