The Art Base wins Wintersculpt prize

Patrick Fort

Three teams completed snow sculptures on Sunday as part of Aspen Winterskol festivities, and only one came away a winner. As time began to run out, contestants made final touches to their pieces.

Teams had worked for two days on eight square feet of snow. There was a team from Anderson Ranch, another of community members and a third team from The Art Base. Snow began to fall and the temperature dropped as the artists waited the results. The Art Base team took the grand prize. “It’s the first time I’ve ever snow sculpted,” said Art Base member Vallee Noone. “We kind of just went at it. It went faster than we thought it would, and it’s been a lot of fun.”

The winners received a $1000 prize to be used for youth programs at the Art Base. Sunday was the 16th year of Wintersculpt, hosted by Anderson Ranch Art Center.
