Aspen Ballots are In the Mail

Elise Thatcher

Ballots will be dropped in the mail today for the Aspen municipal election. Aspen Public Radio’s Carolyn Sackariason has the details.

Around 6,100 ballots will be mailed to registered voters. City Clerk Linda Manning hopes to get back less than a third of those--about 2,500. If you haven’t received a ballot by Friday, contact her office in City Hall, or just come in person.

“It could be that your mailing address has not been updated and so it’s going to come back to us as undeliverable but starting on Monday, the 20th, early voting begins in our office so you can come in and vote in person ... you can come in and take your ballot to go, so you can take it home, fill it out and bring it back and drop it off in person or you can mail it back to us.”

Not only is this Manning’s first election but it’s the first time it’s being conducted from an all computer data base. As result, Manning is looking for a little more expertise.

“So if you are a little more computer savvy and you have nothing better to do on May 5th and you want to volunteer, come in and see us. We’d love to have you.”

There are two locations to vote besides the comfort of someone’s home. The first is in Manning’s office and the other is in the Red Brick Center for the Arts. There are seven people running for two open council seats, and two vying for the mayor position. Voters will also have to decide a ballot question.
