Aspen Power Plant gets neighborly

Aspen Power Plant

A meeting Wednesday night is meant to clear up “misconceptions” about what’s next for the Aspen Power Plant.

Last year city council approved the mixed-use film studio/start-up “incubator”/biergarten/event space-hybrid proposal from the group Aspen Power Plant as the future of the historic building at the north end of Mill Street.

Residents of nearby neighborhood Oklahoma Flats expressed concern about the increased noise and traffic levels that a brewery and party hub would create.

Tonight, Aspen Power Plant executives Duncan Clauss and David Cook - owners of the Aspen Brewery and Aspen 82, respectively - have invited those neighbors for a “community meeting” to discuss how the future power plant plans can work within the neighborhood setting.

Along with the Aspen Brewing Company and Aspen 82 setting up shop in the Power Plant, a space called the “generator” would allow entrepreneurs and artists to rent workspace, and an open-floor plan event area with a commercial grade kitchen could be rented out for private and public events.

The public can learn more and submit comments Wednesday, April 6th, from 5:30pm - 7:30pm in the Rio Grande Room at 455 Rio Grande Place.
