Aspen Seeks Community Input on JAS Partnership

The City of Aspen has been asked to give $5 million toward the purchase of a building in downtown that would serve as the headquarters of the non-profit Jazz Aspen Snowmass. The public can give feedback on the plan in an online survey and in person at the Wheeler Opera House.

J-A-S would use the 4,500 square foot building for performances and rehearsals, as well as a photo gallery and restaurant. Space would also be available at subsidised rents for other nonprofits, events, and city meetings. The exact location of the building has not been made public because JAS is still in negotiations to buy the space.

The city is collecting comments through the end of the month. On August 14th the feedback will be presented to city council, along with a recommendation from the Wheeler Board of Directors. The public funds cannot be allocated without voter approval.
