Aspen Snowmass plans to make summers more fun

Ryer Gardenswartz

Aspen Skiing Company has big plans to add summer features to it’s recreation options, in hopes of making the summer months just as enticing as winter.

Colorado’s summer tourism rates continue to set records, and Snowmass Mountain Manager Steve Sewell wants SkiCo to capitalize on tourists seeking thrills in the warmer months.

“Snowmass needs to be a year round resort,” said Sewell. “We need to offer compelling exciting activities in the summer just like we do in the winter.”

Speaking at a press event last week, Sewell said features such as more biking trails, a climbing wall, an alpine coaster and a zipline are all coming to the valley, but there is no specific time table set.

This June, Aspen Snowmass saw record occupancy rates. The highest since they started tracking monthly rates in 2007.
