Xaviera Simmons and David Castillo Gallery

Xaviera Simmons, a 2013 Featured Artist at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, discusses her work, process, inspirations and vision. Simmons works in photography, installation, multi-media and audio. She also enjoys working in the American west and much of her work investigates social, political and personal narratives. Simmons gave an artist lecture at the Ranch on August 8th and had a piece of work in the Ranch's Annual Live Art Auction on August 10th (pictured). Cornelia was born and raised in Aspen and is happy to be home after attending the University of Denver, where she earned degrees in Geography and Studio Art. Since graduating in 2011, she has illustrated several local children’s books, made maps around the world, and continues to draw and paint. In the summer of 2011, Cornelia was a Development intern at The Aspen Institute, and returned to work for The Aspen Ideas Festival in the summer of 2012.
