Backcountry Skiing & Boarding: The Future of Snowsports?

Andrew M. Israel

The next big thing in skiing and snowboarding is already here. At least, that’s according to the heavy hitters in the snow sports industry, which held its annual conference this last weekend in Denver. Aspen blogger Andrew M. Israel was there to take it all in. He writes the AspenSpin.com, and occasionally for aspenpublicradio.org. Israel says one of the best moments doesn’t really have much to do with snow: "Always one of my favorites is waffles on a stick, at the Vans booth.

And the same guy, I’ve met him now five years in a row, he comes out, and he pours waffles, and he’s got this bar of accessories and accoutrement to put on your waffles. Honey or syrup or powdered sugar, or, there’s crushed nuts.  I never thought I would love waffles on a stick so much, but I do." There were, of course, skiing and boarding trends to note as well. Israel spoke with Aspen Public Radio’s Elise Thatcher. She asked him to describe what the trade show looks like.
