Bacon Day closes the first of four mountains

Barbara Platts

Closing days for the four mountains began yesterday at Buttermilk, where skiers and snowboarders came out for Bacon Appreciation Day.

As the snow turned to slush Sunday afternoon, skiers and snowboarders bedecked in bright costumes hit the slopes of Buttermilk to enjoy bacon themed treats sprinkled across the mountain.

This is the sixth bacon related closing day party. Local Ben Gottlieb said the scene grows more each year.

“It’s kind of amazing how much more fun it’s gotten,” Gottlieb said. “The only expectation is that something silly is going to happen.”

Although Buttermilk has turned off its lifts for the season, there’s still six days left at Aspen and Snowmass, and extended weekends into early May at Highlands.
