Carbondale examines employee salaries

In 2014, the Town of Carbondale wanted to know if they were paying their employees enough. They hired HR-consulting firm, Mountain States Employers Council, who determined they were not.

In order to pay their employees competitively, the town needed to make some significant changes.

The consultant will update Carbondale Town Council this Tuesday night. Jay Harrington, Carbondale’s Town Manager, thinks the consultant’s message will go over much smoother. The town has set aside $25,000 from the general fund to top-off certain salaries.

On the whole, Harrington said the town’s salaries for some of the upper-level jobs are fine. What they have to work on is entry-level and basic labor positions. The town is paying the consulting service $2,500.
