Carbondale’s marijuana industry is growing, and once again, the Doctor’s Garden is at the forefront. In 2014, the business opened the first retail marijuana store in the Roaring Fork Valley. Now, a new branch of that business has gotten the go-ahead to extract marijuana oil and make edibles with it.

Carbondale Town Planner John Leybourne explains the the planned expansion. “Right now there is a cultivation operation, and they’re planning on moving that one to the Rifle facility, which is currently under construction. And then they’re planning on using the rest of the building, once that moves, as their marijuana infused product operation.”

Carbondale town trustees gave the green light Tuesday night for those changes. Officials are considering allowing two other extraction operations as well.
