City preps commuters for April traffic slowdown

http://castlecreekbridge.com/

Beginning next month, traffic in and out of Aspen will be delayed and detoured as the city works to improve a popular bike path.

On Thursday, the City of Aspen met with neighbors and businesses who will be directly affected by upcoming construction on Castle Creek Bridge.

Construction on a trail for pedestrians and cyclists across Castle Creek Bridge starts on April 2. Ahead of that, the city is preparing people for detours and delays. The bridge will be closed to cyclists and pedestrians, who will be rerouted to Marolt Open Space. One lane of traffic will remain open for cars and busses with additional traffic being sent to Power Plant Road.

The project is expected to be completed by October. There will be a break in construction during peak season, from June 11 to Aug. 13.

She has spent her entire life playing in the mountains and rivers around Aspen, and is thrilled to be reporting about all things environmental in this special place. She attended the University of Colorado with a Boettcher Scholarship, and graduated as the top student from the School of Journalism in 2006. Her lifelong love of hockey lead to a stint working for the Colorado Avalanche, and she still plays in local leagues and coaches the Aspen Junior Hockey U-19 girls.
