Businesses across Colorado have penned their support of public lands in a letter to Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke.

Monday was the last day to comment on the U.S. Department of the Interior’s review of 27 national monuments.

A range of Roaring Fork Valley businesses, including outfitters, a bank and a liquor store, signed on, saying Colorado’s Canyons of the Ancients and Utah’s Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante were of particular concern.

Last month, Zinke recommended shrinking Bears Ears, a national monument that President Obama designated under the Antiquities Act. The letter from Colorado businesses asks Zinke to reconsider.

A final decision is expected in August.
