Registration for the Colorado Ski Country USA’s 2016/2017 fifth and sixth Grade Passport Programs opened last week.
These programs give free or discounted access to all Colorado ski resorts, excluding only the expert grade Silverton.
Fifth graders who register for the program get free access to each ski resort for three days, as well as lessons if they are beginners. Sixth graders get a heavily discounted pass and four days at each ski resort. This program, which started more than 15 years ago as the first of its kind in the country, is meant to familiarize the younger set with winter sports in the state.
Colorado Ski Country USA’s communications director, Jennifer Rudolph, said that they are very proud of this program and that it’s one of their favorite initiatives.
“The passport was started because it was a great way for the ski resorts here to really introduce our kids to our state sports of skiing and snowboarding,” Rudolph said. “It was one of the ways we could give them access to the slopes, breaking down nearly all of the barriers for them to learn.”
Prices for the sixth grade pass go up after Nov. 30.
