Aspen City Council approved requests Monday night to fund two studies that are designed to analyze the risks to the town’s future water supply.
The contracts are worth a total of $90,000 with a company called Headwaters Corporation. One study will focus on analyzing water supply. This will include consideration of climate change models, as well as other risks, like natural disasters, quality concerns and water rights issues.
The other study will look at the demand for water in Aspen. The consultants will develop a tool to analyze how water use may change because of variables like population growth and climate impacts.
