Aspen’s elected officials are inching forward with their plans to overhaul government buildings.
In front of City Council tonight is a $1.8 million housekeeping expenditure that advances its plan to build more space and renovate in three locations: City Hall, and the Rio Grande and Galena buildings.
The contract is with Charles Cuniffe Architects and the project manager, NV5. The scope of the work is only for the design of the buildings. The entire project is estimated to cost up to $37 million.
This plan is the alternative to the controversial one-roof scenario where all municipal offices would be built in a new 54,000-square-foot City Hall facing Rio Grande Park. Council backed off that plan in September.
