Decision looms for Basalt on Stott's Mill proposal

At its meeting Tuesday, Basalt Town Council will consider the updated Stott's Mill application, a development proposal that’s been on their radar for many years.

The development would consist of 113 housing units on 18 acres across from Basalt High School.

When the council heard the proposal earlier this month, some questioned how much the project would really do to address the town’s lack of affordable housing, while others said the project has been vetted tirelessly.

The investment group developing the project wants what it had back in 2009, when it was approved, but was then stalled because of the Great Recession. As a result, they lost the right to build. Basalt’s town staff is recommending the council approve the proposal with three years of vesting rights.
