For the first time in three decades the Pitkin County Senior Services department has a new director. Chad Federwitz of Boulder was selected to replace Marty Ames who retired June 3.

Thirty four year old Federwitz has a background in religious studies, and is completing his master’s degree in Gerontology this year. He also brings six years of hands-on experience at the Boulder-area Balfour Senior Living Community, serving as Life Enrichment Director and Chaplain in the Alzheimer’s memory care center.

Federwitz spoke with Aspen Public Radio’s Alycin Bektesh about his two academic disciplines, and their relation to the local aging population.
