  Today is Thursday, July 30th.Pianist Hung-Kuan Chen will give a master class at 10 this morning in Harris Concert Hall.At 10:30, it’s Tunes and Tales at the Pitkin County Library, a free and fun program for children ages 4-9 accompanied by an adult.Today at noon at the Aspen Community Church, there’s a free Spotlight Recital.Chapel Chamber Music takes place today at 4:15 at the Aspen Chapel. Admission is free.

  The Basalt Regional Library hosts a free recital today at 5:15.The Science of Music series continues today at 6pm at the Chabad Jewish Community Center. The topic is Evaluating Musical Instruments.An exciting double bill of two new operas will be presented tonight at 7 at the Wheeler Opera House by the Aspen Opera Theater Center conducted by Robert Spano and directed by Ed Berkeley. Christopher Theofanidis’s (Thee-oh-FAN-uh-diz’s) The Cows of Apollo, or The Invention of Music is a masque suggested by a work of Sophocles. The Classical Style by Steven Stucky with libretto by Jeremy Denk is an opera buffa in which Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven return to earth for an encounter with musicologist Charles Rosen, author of The Classical Style.Violinist Augustin Hadelich (had-eh-LICK) and pianist Joyce Yang play works of Debussy, Ysaye, Kurtag, and Franck tonight at 8 in Harris Concert Hall.Tonight at 8:30, it’s the weekly free String Showcase in Edlis Neeson Hall on the Bucksbaum Campus.
