Forest Service joins Pitkin for first County meeting on Castle Creek Valley

Marshall Hall-Interactive Outdoors, Inc.

The Castle Creek Valley is a well loved recreation corridor, and local and federal officials want to make sure it’s being managed properly. Aspen Public Radio’s Elise Thatcher has an update on those efforts.

Pitkin County and the Forest Service want public feedback on everything along the corridor, from the condition of the road to on-the-ground observations of popular places like Conundrum Hot springs. The entities have been collecting data on how people are using the area, and now the County the federal agency are holding its meeting to get public input. It’s on Wednesday in Ashcroft.

“We hope that not only the residents of Castle Creek will come but also all the user groups,” says Pitkin County Community Development Director Cindy Houben. “People who might enjoy cross country skiing, snowmobiling, or bike riding in Castle Creek.”

Wednesday’s gathering will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Adventure Lodge in Ashcroft. It’s about 12 miles up Castle Creek Valley. The meeting is not to be confused with other gatherings recently held by the Forest Service, concerning some of the same places.
