GarCo Coroner to get first full time employee

Elise Thatcher

The coroner’s office is getting its first full time position. The office now is a hodgepodge. The coroner and his employees are all part time. That can make handling a multitude of tasks difficult. Commissioners have approved paying for a full time deputy coroner.

“Duties will include death investigations, responding to scenes, taking decedents to autopsy,” explains Coroner Rob Glassmire. “They’ll be helping me out with death certificates, management of evidence.”

Garfield County has had 45 deaths so far this year that needed investigation, which is on track with previous years. $60,142 has been budgeted for the new position.
