Garfield County makes Batchelder official as County Manager

Garfield County

Garfield County Commissioners have chosen to hire Kevin Batchelder as County Manager. Batchelder has been Acting County Manager for several months. Commissioners said Monday his expertise with budget matters was a big selling point.

The County is planning for a drop in property tax revenue starting in 2017. The County is also facing major projects at Cattle Creek and Highway 82, the Rifle Garfield County Airport, County Fairgrounds, and other locations.

Batchelder began as interim manager in July, after previous County Manager Drew Gorgey signed a separation agreement. Garfield County held a national search for Gorgey’s replacement, and Commissioners decided Batchelder was the best candidate. Gorgey has since been hired as interim Glenwood Springs City Manager.
