Gram Slaton has been Executive Director of the Wheeler Opera House since October 2005. After 9 years, Slaton is stepping down in mid-December to move back to his hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia. Over his tenure, Slaton has overseen $7.5 million dollars in improvements to the historic venue. Slaton is also credited with bringing a homegrown comedy festival as well as MountainSummit: Mountainfilm In Aspen, the Aspen Songwriters Festival and respected names such as Jon Anderson, Randy Newman and others to the wheeler.  Slaton will become the executive director at the Piedmont Council for the Arts in early January. He joins “Check 1, 2” host Daniel Shaw to talk about his time in Aspen, his fondest memories at the Wheeler, and moving back East.
