Jeh Johnson speaks about national security

Ryer Gardenswartz

A Chat with Jeh Johnson, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. In his final months in office, Johnson gives us his assessment of the state of the nation’s security. The talk is moderated by Thom Shanker, assistant Washington Editor for The New York Times.

This is our live broadcast of the Opening night of the Aspen Security Forum in partnership with the McCloskey speaker series.

Secretary Johnson was appointed by President Obama on December 23, 2013. In 2010, Johnson co-authored a 250-page report that paved the way for the repeal by Congress of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell law that prohibited gays from serving openly in the U.S. military.

Secretary Johnson is a native New Yorker. He was present in Manhattan on September 11, 2001, which also happens to be his birthday.
