Snowmass resident Renee Linnell’s new memoir, "The Burn Zone," explores why a worldly, well-educated person would join a cult.
Linnell details how a deep longing for acceptance led her to join a Buddhist cult, where leaders controlled everything from clothing to diet with extensive verbal abuse. Now, she said she wants to help people accept what makes them stand out.
“I imagine us all being able to run around free and unbound by shame,” she said.
She said the traumatic experience gave her a new sense of strength.
Linnell sat down with arts and culture reporter Christin Kay. She discusses the memoir at Explore Booksellers Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
