‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ premieres in Glenwood

Scot Gerdes

The SoprisTheatre Company’s production of “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” kicks off a two-week run today at Colorado Mountain College.

The story follows Randall McMurphy, a patient in a psychiatric hospital faking his insanity to avoid a prison sentence. It’s based on the novel by Ken Kesey. Playwright Dale Wasserman adapted it for the stage in 1963.

Wendy Tennis is directing the Sopris Theatre Company's production. She actually directed this play years ago at the Backstage Theatre in Summit County and continues to see the underlying themes as applicable to society at large.

“...How we interact with others, how we treat one another kindly and not so kindly, how we accept or don’t accept one another, and how our own personalities interact and influence one another is timeless,” she said.

The New Space Theatre at Colorado Mountain College’s Spring Valley campus will premiere the show at 7 p.m on Friday and Saturday. Next week the show will run April 20 to 22 at 7 p.m. and at 2 p.m. April 22 and 23.
