Positive early returns for 'Green is the New Black'

Beth White

The Green is the New Black Fashion show closed over the weekend. The clothes worn on Friday and Saturday were then sold to raise money for art programs that will be brought to schools.

Early estimates from the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities say that around $56,000 was raised before expenses. It looks to be the event’s highest gross ever.

Ultimately, the goal is to have the show paid for by donors and producers so that all funds can be used for education programs.

The money raised is being used in part to help retrofit a bus that will bring art education programs to schools as far away as Parachute.

UPDATE: Follow-up reporting later in the week revealed a higher fundraising total than originally reported, increasing from $50,000 to $56,000.
