Public hearings about a new City Market begin this month

Carbondale’s planning commission will have a public hearing this month about whether to allow a new City Market is on Highway 133.

The proposal would mean a 58,000 square foot grocery store, 10,000 square feet of retail attached, and a gas station. Parent company King Soopers held a public meeting about the proposal this summer, and a formal application was submitted in late November

Janet Buck is Senior Planner with the Town of Carbondale and says the application has been tweaked in the intervening months to meet concerns by Town Staff. That included “realigning some of the roads [and] making sure there’s adequate landscaping in the parking lot,” plus making sure “some of the drainage systems work, with an eye towards sustainability.”

The upcoming public hearing is scheduled for January 21st with the Carbondale Planning and Zoning Commission.
