RFTA to decide future of open containers on buses

Facebook/RFTA

At their meeting Thursday morning, the board of the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority will vote on a resolution, which would ban alcohol consumption on buses.

If adopted, the ban would be effective June 9. The current policy prohibits bringing open containers on the bus, but doesn’t stop people from opening those containers once they’re on board.

The number of alcohol-related disturbances on buses is rising. There were four assaults on drivers in 2017 and a 30 percent overall increase in incidents between passengers compared to the year prior.
