Since the Grand Avenue Bridge closed on Aug. 14, we’ve been told to ride the bus, but how many of us have? The Roaring Fork Transportation Agency (RFTA) released numbers recently to help give us an answer.

The numbers are only from the first 17 days of the bridge project, but RFTA's CEO, Dan Blankenship, said they’re “pretty remarkable.” The Hogback route, between Parachute and Glenwood Springs, saw 18,000 riders during those two weeks, which is double the ridership it had in all of July.

Besides the Hogback route, RFTA is providing three other routes within Glenwood Springs. All four saw just over 82,000 riders for the last half of August, 70,000 of them were new riders.
