The City of Rifle has an election Tuesday, Sept. 12. Voters will elect new council members and will have a say in allowing the sale of recreational marijuana.

Rifle is no stranger to the marijuana industry, with several grow operations and five medical marijuana stores.

The question voters will answer are: Should medical centers sell retail marijuana? If so, what kind of taxes should buyers pay? The vote is advisory, meant to give city council an idea of what their electorate wants.

Rifle voters will also choose between six candidates to fill four seats on council. The Town Clerk reports to have sent out nearly 4,500 ballots.
