On Monday, the Glenwood Springs Historical Society is asking Garfield County’s commissioners for money to buy gravestones for veterans buried at Glenwood Springs' Rosebud and Rifle's Rosehill cemeteries.
The society knows of 17 veterans buried without headstones, some having served as far back as the Civil War.
The Historical Society is asking commissioners for $5,000 to help pay for headstones. Last year, the commissioners provided $3,000 to the project.
