Sirko leaving Roaring Fork School District this summer

Roaring Fork School District

Roaring Fork Superintendent Diana Sirko is stepping down at the end of June. The District announced today (Friday) that Sirko is planning to pursue other career opportunities.

Sirko says those opportunities “may not be available at the end of next year,” so it would be best to finish up this summer as superintendent. Sirko’s contract technically finishes at the end of June 2017.  “My future opportunities include executive coaching of principals and superintendents across the U.S.,” begins a quote from Sirko in Friday’s press release, “[as well as] professional development for leadership teams, teaching graduate classes and political activism on behalf of school finance...The fact that Rob Stein was already selected last year as the next superintendent makes this decision much easier.  I know all of our efforts will continue forward with great momentum.  We have adequate time to prepare for a smooth transition.”

We’ll have more as this story develops.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — The Roaring Fork School District’s Superintendent Dr. Diana Sirko has decided to leave her position at the end of June.

While Sirko’s contract is through June 2017 she cited several new career opportunities that may not be available at the end of next year, so felt that it was best to leave now.  At the time Sirko’s two-year contract was negotiated, Dr. Rob Stein was tapped to succeed her as the next superintendent by the 2014-2015 Board of Education.

“My future opportunities include executive coaching of principals and superintendents across the U.S., professional development for leadership teams, teaching graduate classes and political activism on behalf of school finance,” Sirko said. “The fact that Rob Stein was already selected last year as the next superintendent makes this decision much easier.  I know all of our efforts will continue forward with great momentum.  We have adequate time to prepare for a smooth transition.”

Under Sirko’s leadership, a $122 million package was approved by voters in Glenwood, Carbondale and Basalt in the November 2015 bond election.  Also, a summary of the State of Schools can be found at http://bit.ly/1KHZHz9.

“It has been a great pleasure to be part of the Roaring Fork School District and the wonderful communities and students we serve,” said Sirko.  “I will continue to live in the valley and plan to jump in for volunteer work here and there.”
