Snowmass Village considers more cash from Related for Base Village amenities

Snowmass Village officials continue to hash out what they want from a developer before Base Village construction can continue. Tonight Town Council will review changes requested by Related Colorado, for its plan to finish building Base Village. The project overall is about a third done now, and residents, officials, and businesses alike are anxious for construction to begin again. But not without making sure there’s enough of what’s called Community Purpose amenities.

Those are triggered by the developer asking for exceptions to the land use code.  “That purpose was originally entitled to be an aqua center. Through all these public hearings we’ve had, that’s been determined that that might not be the most appropriate,” says Town Manager Clint Kinney. “And so  the developer now is offering a framework of potentially cash, that could be used for other community purposes.”

Specifically $4.5 million in cash. The shortlist includes options like fountains or an ice rink. There would be another $1 or $2 million from Related for improving the new plaza area.

More money was added to the deal last Monday in large part on the insistence of Mayor Markey Butler. The newly elected leader made it clear she was holding a hard line on making sure Snowmass Village benefits from final development of Base Village. Tonight’s meeting will include public comment.
