Aspen Public Radio’s sales director Debbie Welden explained why she’s so passionate about supporting public media.

“Aspen Public Radio has been a valuable and cherished part of my family’s life for many years. We were devoted listeners and supporters long before I began working at the station. And now, as an employee for more than seven years, as well as an Evergreen member, my appreciation for all that APR provides to our community has continued to grow,” she said. “It is gratifying to see how the community’s support has also grown over the years. Aspen Public Radio is truly a community asset. It would be difficult to imagine a day without APR!”

A Mississippi native, Debbie was originally lured to Aspen to perform at the Crystal Palace and quickly became enamored of the valley and the mountains of Colorado. After her "first career" in music and theater, Debbie began working in Community Relations at Aspen Valley Hospital. Since then, she has worked as Development Manager at Aspen Music Festival and School, Development Associate at Rocky Mountain Institute, and Development Director at Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. She holds vocal performance degrees from Millsaps College and Southern Methodist University and has frequently been seen in many local productions and concerts. A volunteer with the Aspen School District for many years, she also has served on the boards of Little Feet Daycare, Aspen Choral Society, and Aspen Community Church. Debbie is most at home in the non-profit world and is delighted to be working for Aspen Public Radio. Debbie, her husband Todd, and son Bo are all avid public radio listeners, and enjoy skiing, hiking, river rafting and exploring the spectacular environment of Colorado and the West.
