Most consumers didn’t even know there was a discount on recreational marijuana yesterday.
Alicia Fetters, manager at the recently-opened Roots RX in Aspen, said customers stocked up, in order to take advantage of the one-day “holiday.”
“They love it, it’s really only the ten percent but that ten percent goes a long way” said Fetters.
A provision in Colorado’s 2014-2015 budget says that if revenue from retail marijuana taxes exceeds $67 Million, then state taxes would be eliminated on September 16th, 2015. That mark was met, so the 10 percent levy was not collected on retail sales.
The relief was just a one-day reset, due to the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, known as TABOR. All taxes are back in effect today.
