Pitkin County officials hosted an open house last night to present the latest iteration of conceptual plans for an expanded airport. Carolyn Sackariason has more.
A team of national and local planners are about halfway through a mandated environmental assessment, which looks at potential impacts of the proposed project.
Airport director John Kinney said the terminal design maximizes the footprint and is based off growth projections.
“We said let’s show what the visual impact would be of 140,000 square feet. Are we going to build something that large? No,” he said.
Kinney will present feedback from yesterday’s open house to county commissioners next month.
